On May 23, 1999 Hart fell to his death in Kansas City, Missouri, during the Over the Edge pay-per-view event.[34] Owen was in the process of being lowered into the ring from the rafters of Kemper Arena for a booked Intercontinental Championship match against The Godfather. In keeping with the Blazer's new 'buffoonish superhero' character, Hart was to be lowered to just above ring level, at which time he would release himself from the safety harness and fall flat on his face for comedic effect. It was an elaboration on a Blue Blazer stunt done previously on the Sunday Night Heat before Survivor Series 1998.[35] This time, something went wrong with the stunt harness, apparently triggering the release mechanism early as he was being lowered. Owen fell 78 feet into the ring, landing chest-first on the top rope, approximately a foot from the turn buckle, throwing him into the ring. In Mick Foley's autobiography Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks, Mick claims that following the fall, Owen attempted to sit up and did so before falling back.

He was going to jump down in the Blue Blazer costume and say that he was the Blazer. A bad wire later and Owen James Hart died. Owen needs to go to the HOF. OWEN 4 EVER!

Over the Edge 1999: May 23rd 1999.

He fell from the ceiling, there is no video of the fall but there are pictures right after he hit the ring.

He was the Blue Blazer that night and was going to win the Intercontinental Championship.

R.I.P Owen

I was watching the pay-per-view when it happened. It was horrible. The cable broke that was supposed to lower him into the ring. He either landed on the turnbuckle or very close. The camera didn't show the ring for about 20 minutes while they cleaned the mess up and even when they went back to wrestling you could still see the blood stains on the ring.

He fell from the cieling when the cable he was using to "fly" down to the ring gave way. It was a tragic moment and there will probably never be a more somber moment during a live event.
