Just been to the doctors and have a throat infection, doctor prescribed Amoxicillin antibiotics for 5 days. doc said they are fine during pregnancy. Has anyone had any bad experiences taking antibiotocs during preg?
Would rather not take them but have been told infection will not clear up otherwise.
Any midwifes out there?
Please dont post any horrible remarks like "ask your GP", this is not a medical emerg or anything... i have spoke to GP , just want some more opinions
Thanx

I had to take some at 22wks as well for a tooth infection. As far as infections go it's actually safer to take the small risk then to not take antibiotics at all. An infection in any part of your body can move to your blood and be passed on to your baby causing pre-term labor and even death(I asked the same question to my midwife, I didn't want to take meds and this is what she told me). It's better to take care of things early as safely as possible before it turns ugly.

Yes, you should be fine. My 6 mo old had an ear infection and that is what they gave him, so what little bit your baby gets from you should be of no harm.
I know how you feel, I had a bad infection with my first child and the doc said it would be OK and then right on the warning label it said 'do not take if pregnant'!. I freaked and my doctor just treated me like a moron. (I got a new doc with my 2nd baby!)
Have a good rest of your pregnancy! Over half way done!

I took amoxicillin at around 23 wks for sinuitus. I told doctor i would rather not take them but Im glad I did. The infection cleared up and I havent had any probs since. Im now 38wks and bubs is healthy and getting prepared to make its apperance.
My advice basically is to take them, there's nothing worse than being pregnant and unwell. If this infection lingers you may have to take them at a later date and suffering from anything at all late pregnancy is really uncomfortable. Even heartburn is killing me!

Amoxicillin is fine I checked with my doctor and the pharmacist.
Im on a low dose of antibiotics all through my pregnancy to prevent infections as I am classed as high risk and have a lot of UTI's and chest infections.

I got sick with bronchitis in my early weeks of pregnancy and was prescribed an antibiotic to help clear it up. Most antibiotics are safe to take during pregnancy and will have no negative affect on your unborn child. In my opinion, it is best to clear it up while it isn't so bad rather than let it get bad and then you won't be able to clear it up. Good luck!

Many moms who are GBS+ are given antibiotics (often amoxicillin) during labor to prevent transmitting the GBS to the baby. Amoxicillin in pregnancy should be fine.
I am allergic to amoxicillin, but I have taken both Zythromax and erithromicin (sp?) during pregnancy with no problems.

Amoxicillin is safe to take in pregnancy. Your health is important and you need to take care of yourself. Follow your GPs advice.

I had to take antibiotics early in one of my pregnancies. I didn't have any problems with it, and my son was/is very healthy.
