thanks for the answers and yeah i meant section 8 i'm willing to pay whatever a month. but it just seem harded to find a house on my own. with my income

Section 8 can take up to 2 years. They have only so many "vouchers" and you have to wait until someone becomes ineligible (usually their kids turn 18) to get one.

The houses are managed by private landlords, but should be livable, they are inspected.

You probably mean Section 8 housing. The time frame probably depends on your area. The best source would be the housing authority in your area.

HUD doesn't 'give' houses away. They sell them to buyers when they are foreclosed under a FHA guaranteed loan.
