Nepotism is quite common and there's nothing wrong with it . If you had an uncle who was in charge of hiring and you needed a job , I'm sure you'd be very grateful that your uncle gave you the job .

On a side note - I once read an ad for employment that was well-written and really had me thinking this could be a great opportunity . Long costly ad too . Loads of qualifications were needed and I fit the bill !! But then I got to the bottom of the ad and read " Career Minded Individuals Only - Starting Pay $7.00 / hr ". What a joke !!

Of corse it happens the world over. Nepatisism can be a great thing if you know the right people, if you don't then you will fall through the cracks. people everywhere have to dumb jobs down for their family, friends, people of different races, and people with disabilities. How do you think our president got into an Ivyt league school since his grades were worse than mine I couldn't, or how do you think he bacame president in the first place, if his dad wasn't I doubt he would have been either.

Hum..I don't know about the dumbing down aspect but up here in God's country (Maine) everyone is related to everyone else and it seems like everybody has a sister in law, cousin, etc. outta work....nepotism reigns in small towns.

Of course....at least in the case of 'dumbing down' the posting, they HAVE posted it! Government is famous for never posting openings and VOILA...one day someone someone knows is new in the job!

Favoritism, nepotism, cronyism, I oweyaism...is alive and well!

Rather common practice -- usually it's the description that does the trick.

Not exactly, but I did have a poker room manager that hired people he knew would help him steal. They did. They were eventually all fired!!! What a jerk he was. We were stuck with him and his buddies for almost two years.

I take it you don't live in a small town? Happens all the time around here; how do you think I got MY job? :-)

Yes, and I've seen them advertise the job after it was already filled and these people didn't know they had their hopes up for nothing!!
