It is an odd question, but what about throwing a game to get a lighter match up in the first round of the playoffs. Currently I am in first place in my league and I cannot lose that spot. The other 3 playoff team are in (one by clinch other two by points), but all 4 of us play each other this week -- talk about perfect scheduling. The opponent I play this week is the one I do not want to play in the first round of the playoffs. They have the most points in the league and just looking at their team makes me cry. If I win this week there is a 50/50 shot of playing him in the first round, if I lose I can't play him until at least the final round. It is not ideal, but what about throwing the game or putting up my not best team just so it would lose.

What you guys are saying is exactly what I am thinking. I would rather have someone else knock him off, but if someone else could do it then maybe I could to. What if he has a bad week that week, if I throw this week then I won't play him next week. It is really a hard call for me. I don't want to, but it is almost like I feel like my best chances are with the other playoff bound teams. Granted, they are playoff bound which means that they are have to be somewhat good. I am not sure, what to do just yet.

oh and joey ... Brady, LT, and T.O ... actually I have all of them and I'm still scared to play this guy. Romo and Moss are on his team, so TO can't do anything big without Romo doing something big and Moss is a likely target for Brady down the stretch with him close to the record.

This is a great question, and it comes up a lot this time of year.

They say "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it." What appears to be a light matchup could still deck you on any given Sunday, just as your team can poop its collective pants for no reason.

I have seen this exact scenario played out, and watched it completely backfire on the owner who threw the game.

I have always been a go for the jugular, win every game player. However, my leagues reward cash for every win and for high score of the week. There's incentive...

Without diving off the deep end with karma, and getting what you deserve, I guess I like the satisfaction of winning without any question of tactics.

I won't question your sanity for looking for a better matchup. Some teams get red hot, and it makes some sense to avoid them.

It's up to you to decide your tolerance for risk, and HOW you want to win.

the thing is by trying to throw it you might be surprised and his team have a bad day and your guys tear it up.....only way to be for sure to throw it is to have some blanks out there....the whole thing is strategy and up to you to manage so honestly I'd do it. Just like they do in the NFL they pull their studs out early when they clinch their playoff spot to save them for the end, thats strategy. Think about it like this, if his team is as good as you say they are and most of them are gonna make the playoffs with their own team then chances are they are not going to be playing that much at the end of the season which will be the playoff weeks for fantasy, but if his guys are gonna be fighting for a playoff spot in those last few weeks then I think I might take my chances in having to play him in an early round. Plus if you say he's that good why don't you try putting your best team out there to see how you match up, if his guys are that good he'll prolly beat you anyway and it'll just give you an idea as to what you're up against in the playoffs or the finals..........good luck either way man

I wouldn't do it. Because in head to head fantasy football, you just never know. There have been so many times where the playoffs come along, I'm rooting for a certain team to win so I can play them, it happens, and I lose. Then, the team I'm nervous to play, they have a shitty week and I beat them.

I say always try and win. And let the chips fall. Because you never know who'll be resting guys either once teams clinch.

By the way, who does he have that is so scary? Brady, LT, and T.O? Maybe then I'd avoid him :)

It is in your right to do it, however, make sure you look at the matchups for the following week. Are you sure that your players matchups are better the second week. Either way, you have to play him to win. Just decide which week you would rather do it. By throwing the game just to lose, all you did was play for second place.

I did the same thing last year when I was in first place. It's your reward for being in 1st to do as you please. There's nothing unethical about it, it's strategy.
