He's hooked up to machines that are keeping him alive so perhaps it's just an iron lung type thing you're hearing, not him breathing exactly. I'm sure some Star Wars fanatic will jump all over how wrong this is but that would be my guess.

of course, it is an ionospheric oxygenization machine that pumps his lungs when he breathes. he is hooked up to a machine that reads his thoughts and talk for him. therefore he can breathe and talk at the same time..... or maybe because its a MOVIE!
