there r many trains which have wi-fi facilities in it.. i wanted to know how dose it works .. is it something to do with satellite??

Unlikely.

They are most likely using a technology known as wireless mesh. They put wireless access points all over the place and the network is able to move your connection along just like a cellular phone.

Google "wireless mesh" - a lot of municipalities are installing it primarily for communication with police, fire and other mobile city employees.

Yes, a satellite ISP modem with a wireless AP or router attached. Also the popular choice of truck drivers.

There is no other way.
It gets the internet via the satellite and sends it via wi-fi to the train.

It might be satellite-based, or it might use a cellular telephone network. Or it might use some other radio technology.

on top of the train it will have aerials which receive the signal and then sends it to your laptop :D
