Do you know the person who gave you this check? There are tons of bogus check scams. Any of these sound familar? http://www.fraud.org/tips/internet/fakecheck.htm

I'd try cashing it at a bank. If you have an account there, they charge nothing for cashing it. The check cashing stores are a huge rip off.

Better to start quick bank account with the money so ther's no charge then sign less cash.

8-10 % .if the check is from canada or another country ,then thay wont. I would call the bank to verify funds and open an account to deposit.
