The NY Yankees have re-signed or agreed to deals with all their major free agents during the offseason. But, isn't this the same group of guys that came up failures last year? Why would this year be any different?

Keen observation, one that seems to lack in the eyes of the dreamers and the delusional.

The core group is the same. Lets look at our re signings. Posada possibly the best catcher in the game. Rivera possibly the best closer of all time, possibly in the twilight of his career but I'd still give him the ball. Alex The Best Player in all of baseball without question. Pettite possibly the winningest left hander in the past 10 years. Throw in Molina and Abreu and yes theyre the same team but with a twist. Our pitchers are young and eager to show the stuff that they have. Joba, Ian and Phil will be as good as they say they are. We are the same team but with a new twist and I don't think Cashman or Steinbrenner is done yet. Add a Dan Haren or Eric Bedard and we can contend with anyone.

Last year was a failure for the Yankees, they look at every year they don't win a world series as a failure. Sneaking into the playoffs as the wild card team, then getting beat in the first round is certainly a terrible year for the Yankees.

If the Yankees don't get Santana I would expect them to go after Haren to get a legit number 1, which would really help them next year.

They should not be trying to sign guys like Petitte, because even though he was a great player and deserves a lot of respect for his career, he is not the same player he used to be and he is on the team because of what he used to do, not what he still can.

Just my thoughts on the topic.

Well, even if we don't get Santana, we'll have a capable staff. Wang, Pettite, Hughes, Chamberlain and Kennedy/Mussina will get us by. Our bats on the other hand, are the same. We know what to expect. Hopefully, we don't start off like last season playing like Charlie Brown's team!! UGGGGGH!!!

How is it the same group of guys? We have added 3 pitchers to the starting rotation. That is a MAJOR chance. Plus we are probably going to trade for another one in the coming weeks. It will be more than enough to put us past Boston, who really ARE the same group of guys who barely won the division, barely won the ALCS, and faced the 7th best team from a weaker NL after an 8 day layoff.

While other teams are improving, they stand pat and fall behind.

ding!!! somebody finally gets it!!!!! thats what ive been saying, they are the exact same team except two very very important changes, first of, every one of them is one year older, one mroe year worn out (very important for someone like giambi or damon) and the manager that has always deflected criticism from his players and held all those massive egos in check is now gone
they arent just going to be as bad as last year, theyll be worse, cause they arent going to pull off a miraculous comback by pummeling weak temas in the second half like they did this last year

It doesn't mean the yankees were a bad team last year. But your right they need to improve their team.

Same team...but without Clemens.

We were just 2 games out of the division last season. I'm sure this years pitching will be able to make up for Clemens losses.

c'mon...the Yankees are almost pathetic at this point. They keep going back and forth on going young and building for the future or keeping a veteran lineup in place which is becoming "cryptish". I think Pittsburgh will have a better year than New York this year simply because they have their targets set on something.

I wouldn't exactly call a team that made it to the MLB playoffs, and has been making it for the past 12 seasons, a failure team.

That is the word you can use for the Mets or the Tigers.
