I have a computer that is about 6 years old.It is going to crap out soon so I was wondering if any one could point me in the right direction for building a new one myself. I don't need a super computer just on that will get me on the net hold 9 to 10 gigs of music and the same amount of pictures,a usb port that fits my camcorder, maybe vista but i heard it is crap?. I'm computer retarded but heard that it is not super complicated to work on older parts. I also heard that the parts would be cheaper if they would be a couple of years old. I don't know were to start so any information would be helpful.

Find a computer nerd in your area, a custom build like that is easily less than $500.

Check websites like newegg.com and tigerdirect.com to see if they have any pre-built systems to your liking although it would still be cheapest to custom build one. Really you could do it yourself with enough research and it isn't that hard but it takes a bit more explaining then I'm willing to type on yahoo answers. Good luck.

I wouldn't recommend Vista. In order to run Vista you'll need to invest in hardware that surpasses your general needs and will boost the cost of your build when you really don't need to.

I agree with the answer above...
No need to build your own or buy used when you can buy a very fast brand-new computer from Dell.
See link below for a small form factor PC with LCD flat panel, Win XP, dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD all for only $399.00. You can't beat the performance for this price. I have sent so many people to this site to purchase that I should get commission from Dell! No problems.... ever.
If you can't read the link below, go to dell.com, click small business and hot deals. Trust me!

Good Luck!

I would check the local colleges, they usually throw away or sell there computers for cheap. If you purchase one there cleared and do not have all the garbage on them.
