Whenever I'm going through a new route... I just forget which way I took or how to get back and it gets really irritating. It takes me a lot of time to learn a new route...How do people just learn a new way so quickly?? is there any way I can improve my memory on routes??

If your car is not equipped with a tiny compass, you can buy one for the dashboard. You can also pick up a GPS system for under $ 200.

One general rule: Interstates with odd numbers go North and South; Interstates with even numbers go East and West.
Whatever location you are trying to reach, use a reference point frorm the city to determine which way you need to go. For example: in my area, I know the beaches and the Atlantic Ocean are to the East of everything. So if I need to go North, I see where all the signs point for the beaches (East) and then direct myself 45 degrees to the left.

When I was still driving to other states, I would just mark the new route in my road atlas and the new route would be there if I forgot how to get back home.
Learn to read a map and memorize the way it looks on paper and it will be easier to see it on pavement.

Cheap way. pay close attention to your surroundings and look for distinct land marks like a gas station or store or sign on the corners where you make turns. Or you can buy a road map for like 10 - 20 dollars

Not so cheap way. get a portable gps in your car. like a tomtom or a garmin. there are also cheaper brands but those re the better ones

I am mindful of land marks. Sometimes I look at something and think of something significant to help me remember it.
Example: I may see a garbage can with an X on it and I think "X marks the spot."
Or: the sidewalk where I need to turn is old and warped, so I imagine myself tripping over one of it's lumps then I remember that bit of sidewalk when I drive past it again.

Before mobile phones people used to remember phone numbers, now our phones do it for us. Just invest in a sat nav and worry no more, you can use it in or out of the car. As for your memory, get a nintendo and use brain training programmes, just remember where you have left all your new gadgets or you will be well and truley f*****.

Some of us, including myself, simply have a bad sense of direction. Thank goodness for mapquest and GPS systems.

Holy cow Sergio (above) - I never knew that about the interstates! No wonder I'm always lost! Thanks!

Why not just get one of those GPS trackers for your car that way you just key in where you want to go and where you are and it tells you the way to get there.
