Bring it to a jeweler. They can clean real gold. It may have been damaged by the heat, too. They can repair it if you wish.

Here is a perfectly safe method to try before going to a jeweler: make a thick paste of table salt and vinegar. Use this with a cotton cloth to polish the ring.

I would definately recommend taking it to a jeweler to get it cleaned so you dont scratch the gold.

i am guessing it is blackened by carbon - try taking and old tooth brush and some regular toothpaste (not gel) and see if you can brush away the carbon.
I have used this to clean carbon off of other things and it has worked well.

depends on the gold content, the higher the content, the more you should probably take it to a jeweler for cleaning and repolishing.

Take it to a jewlery store they should be able to do it for you , sometimes at no charge espically if you take it to where you bought it.
