This may sound like a stupid question, but...I've never been good at drawing....just like a normal person, I guess...I can draw stick ppl and smiley faces and it basically ends there...a few pieces I've spent a lot of time on turned out ok...
So my question is, if I spend time and effort, maybe take classes, etc., could I learn to draw passably, even well?

yes, it is possible with practice. It is a language like any other. Artists work in lots of mediums...I know a lot of great artists that aren't the best at rendering!

Try the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. Good place to start.

Absolutely.

In earlier times, artists were taught through apprenticeship, just like plumbers and electricians are now. Many artists have a gift that gets them started, but dedication and practice are just as (or more) important.

Practicing by yourself could make you better at doing things the wrong way. Classes have some great benefits: learning techniques, seeing your work compared to others, and getting feedback from somebody else.

Short answer is "yes."

With practice and some good coaching, practically anyone can become a reasonably good artist. And don't think that the definition only applies to someone who can "draw" well. Artistic talent is not limited to drawing. Good design can be applied to extremely abstract elements.

But whatever direction your talent develops, it will take practice to become good at it.

Yes ofcourse you can learn how to draw as long as you practice, put the effort into it and try, try and try. Eventually you'll become great than you expect.
Remember:
You can do it if you put your mind to it.
You can if you think you can.
