Some ancient people who we think of as polytheistic and were spiritually and philosophically sophisticated understood that all the deities were 1) cultural variations of the same deity and 2) celestial beings that, like human beings, were creations or expressions of a more transcendent and unitary Godhead. Some scriptures, such as Vedic (Hindu) scripture state that although there are a myriad of gods, there is actually only one god. The earliest Vedic scripture states early on in the text that "Truth is one, the wise know it has many names." Similar sentiments can be found in ancient philosophical and mystical treatises of western ("pagan") religions.

personally i believe that there is no god that everything that used to be unexplainable was either blaimed on an almighty spirit (a god) or magic

the reason for so many gods would be on certain people in a certain region making up a certain thing

thats also coming from someone raised to be christian although i dont say that some things are gods will or try to find a reason for it (science in other words) i believe its magic yes magic

quick question for all of you people who are gonna be telling there is a god:
why does he cause so much suffering in the wolrd? why would he harm his favorits creations?
^ if u try to blame the devil for all the bad things in the world i ask you this:
why would god make someone that evil? why would he allow someone that evil to inflict pain onto his creations?

I guess it depends on what qualifies one as a "god." A powerful spirit? Human perception? Being good and perfect? Because a lot of "gods" seem to have human like qualities. I don't need or want that in a "god." A divine being should be....divine.
