This might be a dificult question...

I recall a proffesor in college telling us a bout a battle where Alexander took among his men those with the best sight. He had them look a wall of a city he was about to attack and ask them to estimate the height of the wall. Then Alexander lined the men from the smallest estimate to the largest and picked the middle man on the line. Then Alexander used this man estimate to build the ladders to climb the wall.

This event by the way its an interesting refference to the use of the statistical median.

Please let me know where I can find any refference to this or this historical battle.

WHile I am a History buff on Alexander the Great, I have never heard of this story yet.
What I would do is try to contact your old college profesor, or contact the head of the History department of your local college. They should know about the story, or will be able to help you find the answer to your question.
Im sorry I could not help you more
