Why and how did the great Land of the Free evolve to a system where the only choices to vote for are evil?

2007-12-04 05:22:50 · 21 answers · asked by 6th Finger 2 in Politics & Government Elections

I refuse to believe that this is the only choice for America. I refuse to believe that our votes and choices do not matter. I have all the reason to be cynical and apathetic, but I hold onto the hope that good will always revail in the end. Without that hope, there is no reason for life.

I will tell you the PRECISE moment it happened.

It happened when the Supreme Court designated the Corporation is a PERSON.

That made it a "free speech" issue when corporations began donating more and more and more money to politicians, leading up to today's situation where Big Business actually does own the supposed representatives of the populace.

That's a fantasy. Steeped in cellular memory of American heritage - in reality it doesn't exist any more.

The only answer to make politicians accountable to the voters again is to take the $$$ power away from Corporations by prohibiting them from donating to political campaigns.

Which they will FIGHT because it "interferes with free speech" which is bull$hit because a CORPORATION IS NOT A PERSON and therefore has no "right" to free speech.

See how that works?

Yes you are. But even voting for the lesser of two evils is better than not voing at all.

This would take a lot of work but I think it would work. And it would be less expensive.

We have a new game show to rival American Idol. ten Republican candidates, ten Democrat candidates, and ten from the minor parties(one each, I'm trying to keep this whole campaign under three months long).

To start off each group has one night (let's say Democrats on Monday, Republicans on Tuesday, the rest on Thursday. Same rules as American Idol. And you can vote all three days. Shows are an hour long.

The candidates get to speak about anything they want to for five minutes. Every week each group gets reduced by one. As the number goes down the time each has to talk is increased. Shows are still kept at one hour.

When it's down to the winner in each group there is a hour and a half 'special'. Where each one gets thirty minutes to impress the audience.

The vote that really counts will be done the following day. Just like a normal election.

Unfortunately, the answer to your question is that Americans have been SUPER gullible up until about the last 6-12 months. The Democrat VS. Republican label has not meant anything for almost 20 years now.....until Americans understand these parties as 2 political ideologies stemming from the same source, we will not have a real election. BIG MONEY runs the country now, as many others mentioned (blueridg nailed it)....which means they control the main avenues of information that a majority of Americans get their news from. Basically the American public has been manipulated like a herd of sheep for the last 50 years and taken it in a very passive manner.

Yes that is true. That is why you should always stand for what you think is true even if they don't have a chance at winning. A good example is Huckabee. In a GOP field littered with some heavy criticism of morality some were compromising what they think to be right. Pat Robertson (big wig Christian) got behind Guliani about 2 months ago...he compromised things that he stood for. It was the average American that said this is not acceptable, we are going to get behind someone who maintains a high level of morality, and he is "surging" as the media puts it. On the same tone, that is why you have Ron Paul still in this race. A lot of people want the troops coming home, and are not willing to compromise it. That is admireable as well, whether you agree or not.

Who I vote for relies upon on the place of work and applicants. interior the previous election, there replaced into no threat that the candidate of my party replaced into going to win :( so I voted for the lesser of two evils of the different party. regrettably, he did no longer win the two :( :( Idealistically, if somebody from a third party matched my perspectives virtually one hundred%, i think of it stands out as the wonderful situation to do to vote for that person; even regardless of the undeniable fact that, from a real looking attitude, I even have never finished that :(:(:(

Of course. Politics and Corporations are all corrupt. Lining the pockets of the elite few who control the world. They lie and cheat and use trickery to control the population through religion and even hate. Yep. How many of you are familiar with white slavery which existed here before black slavery in our colonial history. The whites were treated nearly as poorly as the blacks. Only difference was that they were indentured so their slavery had a time limit because of laws in Europe. They were whipped, raped, beat, mutilated and it was legal to kill them for their disobedience. The wealthy and political party created racism out of fear of a complete overthrow because they were greatly outnumbered by the slaves who banded together black/white and indians. They had to create more and more harsh laws to divide the races to prevent a complete rebellion and created racism. Now we do it with the migrants. Don't worry folks they won't get citizenship or easily obtain legal means of work. EVER. It's the only way the wealthy can keep lining their pockets with cheap labor. If they were to get easy working privs then they would have a right to earn higher wages. NOT GONNA HAPPEN. We're all just slaves to the Masta'

In the world of today, you are exactly voting for the lessor of the two evils. Not really because they are truly evil. (Except for Hillary, she really is!) But because of the different views of the people. A lot of Republicans do not agree with Democrats, making them evil to them. The same applies to Democrats thinking Republicans are evil. In the end, the sitting President almost always does something to make half or more of the people think he is evil. I voted for Bush twice, as evidently most Americans did. One of his major mistakes was not being tough on the boarders. So in the end, when it comes to professional politicians, yes, you are voting for the lessor of the two evils. Who will do the less damage, or the most good while in the White House. So it really is an expression, not a fact.

now we're getting somewhere...

A similar question would be... how come a regular private citizen can never become president ?...why do you have to have millions of dollars to be heard or considered ?

Look at the last several elections... can anyone sit here and tell me that the candidates available on the ballot were the BEST...the most INTELLIGENT ?..the most HONEST PEOPLE in all of America !??? No of course not... they would be lucky to be in the top 30 percent in terms of intelligence.... and honesty...sheeeesh...forget that !

Well i agree really starting with Bush Sr we havent had any good candidates to choose from either party. Then we have the Clintons whose administrations were awash in scandal and dirty political money and now we have George and he involves us in a dirty little war that has no political value.--------But who were we left to vote for Gore and Kerry? Come on!! Why do democrats always seem to field candidates who are like walking time bombs? They cant give a straight answer to anything and they always make an insert foot in mouth statement or claim thats just outrageous!
