If you did, what kind did you go with? Why did you choose that one? Were you happy with it? I'm six months pregnant and debating mostly between a traditional epidural and a CSE. Thanks for your input and sharing your personal experience! :)

There are three kinds of epidurals. There is the traditional one, a combined spinal epidural (or "walking epidural) and a thrid one where you control the strength of the medicine.

My wife had an epidural and recommendeds it to anyone pregnant without religious believes against it. You will need to push more because of how numb it makes you. Also if you have a low pain threshold YES get it. It doesnt make you a wuss or ANY less of a mother.

I've had 4 babies now, 2 with an epidural and 2 without. Trust me when you're in pain you don't care what kind it is you just want it to work!! I've never heard of a CSE but I know both of mine were traditional in your spine meds and the first one worked and the second one didn't. Whichever you choose will work for you because it will have been your decision. Good luck to you and congratulations =)

I have had 3 epidurals, the traditional, No problems at all. Was very happy with it. Did not want a spinal, was most reccommended by other people. Doctor and I agreed this was best for me.

ookay...ive never been pregnant but my sister has and so have friends. all of them have had epiderals and there were mixed feelings. my sister had no problem with it. the first time she was at 5 centimeters when she got it and the other one she waited until 7 centimeters. the needle is extremely long of course but well worth it. she is feeling fine now. no pain or anything what so ever.
a friend of mine had a bad experience. for some reason the nurse had to do the epideral 3 times. she now has major back problems.
sorry i dont have much info on the last one but my friend was not in the mood to discuss what happened.
good luck on the new addition to the family!

I had 3 traditional epidurals b4 they finally gaved me a c-section.I was going for a viginal birth but my epidurals kept on wearing off and by time my 3rd one wore off i was only dileted only 7cms and been in labor for 26 hours. So finally after I kept on begging for a c-section they finally gaved me one after my 3rd one wore off so they can give me med so they can give me a c-section.
Now pregnant once again instead of going thru what i did over 4 yrs agos i'm going to just get a c-section done and be over with it.

I did, I will never ever do it again, but I realize everyones body reacts differently and I might have just had a simple bad reaction. That said, I was in more pain after the birth for 2 days than when I was in labor. I had a traditional.

I have had 3 children and have had a standard epidural with each one. They worked great for me- they relaxed me enough that each of my children were born within a half hour of getting it. I"m sure it differs for everyone but for me it took my pain away and made the delivery bearable.

I have had four kids, but I never had an epidural. I went natural using the Bradley method.

I also dont think there are different types. I DO KNOW for a c-section they will give you a spinal block that numbs more then a regular epi.
You can also decide to just get an IV of drugs instead of an epi.
