A prime number is a number that can be divided by itself and 1 only.
The smallest prime number is 2.
The first few prime numbers are:-

No AndyJ there are also -ve prime numbers
-2 , -3 , -5 .....
the primer number is integers that is divisable by 1 & itself only
like 2,3
7 is prime
but 9 is not as it is divisible by 3
[ some consider that 1 is also a prime ]

A prime number is a number that can only be divided by itself or by 1. (and cannot be divided by any other number).

examples: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19.

2 can only be divided by 2, or by 1
3 can only be divided by 3, or by 1

etc..

Prime Numbers just divided to self and 1.
for example: 11 is just 11 * 1
But 12 is 12 * 1 and 3* 4 and 6 * 2 and 3 * 2 * 2 ,...

so 11 is Prime. prime numbers: 2,3,5,7,11, 13, 17,....

They are the various integers, greater than one, which cannot be formed as the product of two other integers both greater than one.

21 is not prime, because it is 3 times 7.
23 is prime, because there is no way to form it by multiplying any two other integers. Multiplying 23 by 1 doesn't count, because it can't help being true, and it tells us nothing new or useful about 23.
