their opponents winning % is 0.472 (68 - 76). Remove the Colts and Cowboys and it becomes 0.397 (48 - 73).

Now they are a very good team but "best ever"? Don't think so!! If they played better teams maybe...

-3 Superbowl wins, does that count for something, NOT RELEVENT TO THIS YEAR!
-12-0 with a undefeated season on the line, wins against the : THEY ARE HARDLY THE FIRST TEAM TO GO 12-0

Look at some of the scores they put up on decent teams like the skins and the bills. THE SKINS & BILLS ARE HARDLY DECENT TEAMS

'72 dolphins and find out that their total opponents winning percentage was under .400 . WHO ASKED ABOUT THE '72 DOLPHINS? NOT ME!

I don't see how anyone can lable them the best team ever before they've won the Super Bowl... forget their opponents winning percentage.

If they go undefeated and win the Super Bowl in the fashion that they've won games earlier this season then I say include them in the talks. Until then, please refrain from using the word "champions" to describe them.

Tony Kornheiser last nigt - "That's what champions do, win."

BTW, whoever compared their winning percentage to the '72 Dolphins... I have seldom heard anyone quote that Miami team as the best team ever.

I think best ever labels are something that people need to wait until after the season to start handing out and I am a Patriots fan. But IF they went 19-0 I would say despite their record that they are the best ever, because although you point out the Patriots schedule wasn't tough, which I certainly agree they are not the first team to have an easy schedule, in fact the Steelers this season have only played 2 teams above 500 and the Patriots would have still beaten the best in the league this year along the way with Dallas being the best NFC and Indy being the best AFC and they won those games on the road.

I don't like the Patriots at all, but I do think they are a very good team. I can't say the best team ever though. The Colts should have beat them, Peyton choked. The Eagles should have beat them, AJ choked, and the Ravens should have beat them (some idiot called a time out.) It is luck and a little bit of misfortune from their opponents that they are 12-0 and not 9-3. I guess the best teams find a way to win, even when they aren't playing their best games. Baltimore played a great game, but messed up when it mattered most.

1. They are part of the reason for opponents having a low win percentage.
2. It gives the announcers and pundits something to talk about.
3. Until another team proves them otherwise, they're the best team this year, and therefore, in the running for the best team ever.
4. They are a stacked team personnel-wise that has not had to use all the options available to them on offense, i.e. Ben Watson and Lawrence Maroney.
5. Other than the past two weeks, they have dominated and crushed their opponents.

I am not a Patriots fan by any means, I can't stand them. But it's tough to argue with their success.

They are not the best team ever, because in order for them to be labeled the "best team ever", they would have to play other teams that are label the "best team ever". So unless the 66 Packers, 72 Dolphins, 95 Packers, 92 Cowboys, 89 Giants, 84 Forty-Niners . . . ect can all reassemble in another dimension and have a playoff as the best team ever, you will never know, there will always be a debate. I know one thing for sure though, If they don't win the Super Bowl this year with all the hype on them, they will be labeled as the Biggest Chokers ever. Wait . . . . that belongs to the Bills. See even that can't be decided.

First of all, you can't "remove the Colts and the Cowboys" because that is part of the reason they are being called great - by beating those teams.

Second, part of the reason those other teams have losing records is that they all lost to New England.

Are they the "best team ever"?? I don't know - certainly not yet, but they could be if they run the table.

A team has to play whoever is one the schedule. That's the way the NFL, and most leagues, work. They are 12-0 ---- you certainly can't ask any more of them than that.

You can disagree that they are the "best team ever" and right now I will not argue with you. But your stats don't support your claim.

Don't forget, some people have very short attention spans. No matter where you go, everyone says the Pats crush so-and-so, namely Dallas. Now, I'm pretty sure the 'Boys played pretty good against them. They were only down by one score at the end of the Third quarter. How is that crushing someone? Despite that lop-sided finally score, which was done in the last quarter due to Dallas dying for someodd reason, Dallas held their own with them.

And to throw more wood on the fire for the weak team argument, look at what division the Pats play in, the AFC East, one of the weakest in the league. Miami? The Jets? Buffalo? Anyone could win that weak division. Miami is winless, the Jets get the crap beat out of them by everyone not named Miami, and Buffalo can't get in the endzone. That's about a third of the season for the Pats. Easy 6-0.

I agree...they need to continue to be undefeated and win the Superbowl. Even then I wouldn't be label them best team ever, but we can say best team of the decade.

How do you compare apples and oranges as the game has changed so much from its inception. are the 88, 89 49ers better than 72 dolphins, 85 bears, or Steeler, Cowboys and Greenbay dynasty's? It cant be done.

I have seen some teams that are good but I think that the Patriots have to be up there with the best teams of all time. They won last night despite swirling wins and the Ravens actually showing up to play. They have beat the best teams in the NFL this year (Dallas and Indianapolis) They beat Dallas easily. Look at some of the scores they put up on decent teams like the skins and the bills. They are doing things that no other NFL team has ever done. I can't stand the Patriots but I have to give them credit . They are having a season that few other teams could ever hope to accomplish.

They play the schedule that is given them...I've been a hardcore football fan for 35 years and I have seen better offenses and better defenses but never a team that has great personnel in all positions of the game. This IS one of the best teams I have ever seen (I am a die-hard Dolphin fan) for the simple reason they WIN and lately they have been tested Hard.
