I have been pregnant 3 times and only had my water break in one of those pregnancies. I had no forewarning. I just stood up and I felt a gush of fluid.
I know that your water can break and you not even know it because it can be a very slow leak. At that point in your pregnancy, it's hard to tell if your water is leaking or if your bladder is just weak and you leaked a little that way.
Just remember, when you start to feel cramping or back pain, time the pains. If they are coming at pretty regular intervals, it's time to call the doctor.
Good luck to you and your baby!

I actually had a really bad pain that lasted for about 2 minutes and then I noticed that my water had broke. My doctor said there is usually no pain associated with it, but that my daughter's head may have moved way down in the birth canal which caused the pain and then the water to break. Luckily I was in his office for my 38 weeks appointment when it happened so I didn't freak out too much.

With my first 2, my water broke in a gush during labor at the hospital. With my last child, I was at work and felt what I thought was a really funny kick from the baby. When I stood up, I kept getting little trickles of water down my leg. After I used the bathroom, I knew I wasn't peeing down my leg, but it was my water! With my mom, she was doing laundry and flooded herself and the floor and was wet to her knees 2 more times before she made it to the hospital. Everyone has a different story, but I have never heard of any advance warning, unless you are in labor and know it is going to have to happen at some point for the baby to be born!

I have had 4 babies and only with one did my water break on its own. With the other 3, my doctor broke it for me when I was already in labor at the hospital. With the one baby whose water broke on its own, I was sound asleep when I woke up to go to the bathroom. As I rolled out of bed, I felt something warm and wet and originally thought I had woken up too late and had wet myself. As I waddled to the bathroom, it continued to drip a bit down my leg. After I peed and stood up, I realized that it was still dripping out and finally figured out that my water had broke. I don't think you look down and notice it, but you do notice it when it begins to leak out. For some women it kind of gushes, for others it simply drips. Every woman and every pregnancy is actually quite different.

Mine's never broken in early labour - it was broken with a tool when I stalled at 8 cm with my first, then broke during a push with my second.
My sister's broke somewhat with her first (a bit of a gush, didn't all break - baby's head acted like a cork)...she didn't notice any sign before it happened.

mines broke at 20 weeks, I lost the baby...but I went to the bathroom peed and then i wiped after i wiped it felt like something was pushing down to come out so i put my hand underneath as to catch whatever it was falling-nohing fell,so I went to stand up & look in the toilet & I heard a pop, fluid came gushing down,I thought that maybe I was peeing again but my water had broken....I felt no prior cramping or pain, infact i'd just come from the library & was on my way to work.

You may feel some discomfort....thru out the day. Cramping feelings but they are only contractions. But after your water breaks, your contractions will get stronger so get ready.Good luck
