I am a Yankees fan & I have seen so many postings on YA, that if Red Sox get Santana that they will win 4 or 5 World Series in the next couple of years. I will admit, the Sox will have a great pitching staff & if they do sign him, nothing is guaranteed. Remember all that great pitching the Atlanta Braves had & what did they get out of that pitching staff, yes they did win many division titles, but they also only won 1 World Series. Whoever gets Santana, whether it's the Yanks or Sox, neither team is a shoe in for the WS title but he will help whatever team he goes to. Thoughts?

Nothing is ever a done deal in baseball (or any other sport for that matter.)

That's why they play the games.

It would make the Red Sox the favorite to win the World Series. As of today they are 5-1 favorites, with the Yankees close behind at 6-1. Adding Santana would move them to 4 or 3-1.

The season is 162 games and until the 19 games that make the post season and the world series...That is alot of baseball to be played.....Alot of injuries he may have a bad year or the team might not gel who knows what the out come will be but whomever the team that signs Santana will definitely have a great pitcher...but nothing is certain.....There is no doubt that Boston has a great team and if they manage to pull off a deal that will land them Santana then they will be a dangerous team...As a Yankee fan I hope the Yanks do get Santana but according to Hal the deal is dead unless the Twins take the offer of Huges Melkey and some other prospect the Twins want Kennedy in that package in oreder for the deal to be done I agree with Stienbrenner that is way too much and I am happy that the Yankees are not trading away all their talent for Santana finally they are doing something smart...Will Santana be the key for the team who is lucky enough to sign him in a world series championship will he carry a team is he the answer for the Yankees if they get him I don't know.....But whoever gets him will have one hell of a starter....

I would not say they are a shoe in for 4 or 5 titles. A ton of things can happen. Johan's arm can fall off. I will say they are as close to a lock as they come for a WS Title in 2008. Remember, the Braves of the 1990's didn't have Papi and Manny in their line-up. Matter of fact, they didn't have a single potential Hall of Famer in any playoff line-up in the 90's (unless you consider Chipper Jones or Fred McGriff HOFers which I don't).

Who in baseball would be able to win a 7 game series when Beckett and Johan are throwing back-to-back games? Oh yeah, Dice-K and Schill are Boston's 3-4 pitchers.

If the Sox get Johan, 2008 is all wrapped up. If the Yanks get him, there not favored. The Yankees have more problems that just 1 pitcher. They would have a bonified ace in Johan, but then they have two #3 pitchers. If they Yankees are relying on Pettite or Wang to be a great #2, they are in rough shape. I like Wang, don't get me wrong. He is a very good pitcher, but he is a marginal #2 pitcher on a World Series team. Maybe it is the fact that he is a sinker ball pitcher that makes me nervous about him if i was a NYY fan.

Good luck all in 2008.

yes, WS will be a done deal if the sox land Santana.
But, getting Santana is more of a defensive move for the Yankees and I feel it's imperative for them to do so.
Whats the chance that any of the yankee's prospect will develop into anything close to Santana's caliber? Minute I say.
Few years ago, the Sox and Yankees were fighting for Arod, what's so different now with Santana, who is arguably the best pitcher? Losing Santana to the RedSox will certainly continue WS-less drought for yanks because they'll never make past ALCS, or should I say ALDS for the past 3 years.

The postings you are seeing are coming from overly enthusiastic Red Sox fans. Even with Santana there is no guarantee they will even make the playoffs let alone win another championship. Only a few game separated them from going to the playoffs and not going to the playoffs last year. With a few injury problems and an off year by a few key players and other teams in the AL could finish ahead of them next year with or without Santana. Of course, Santana would be a nice addition for any team but he comes with no guarantees.

Even though baseball is nothing like Football in which the last team standing is the team with the best players, but you have to admit that if the Red Sox get Santana, it will be devastating for the Yankees and the other AL teams.

As a Red Sox fan I hate to see what I just saw, the Red Sox are not a W.S. lock, their are 30 teams in MLB and 162 games, so no one could ever be lock to be in the World Series unless they won the AL or NL pennant!!

i think of that they do, with their precise opposition being the Detroit Tigers. The purple Sox are very frivolously rounded, and honestly have extra useful pitching than hitting this year. Their bullpen became into the main suitable in the league at an era close to 2.70, and that became into in the previous they have been given rid of Joel Pineiro and added Eric Gagne. The have intensity of their offense and bench and massive gamers offensively. i think of that they are going to the two win the worldwide sequence (optimistically), or lose to the Tigers in the ALCS Championship sport.

The reason the season is 162 games long is that it takes somewhere around that many games to decide who is the best. The reason that they go ahead and play the games is that no matter what you look like on paper, you still have to win to win. There's a reason why most everyone's picks go awry.

They still have to play the games. Anything can happen in Baseball. Look at 2006, Beckett wasn't the same picther and the Bosox finished in 3rd. Everything has to gel to be the Champ. They still have to play the games.
