When I was 16 I remember my Dad saying that I would have to do alot of chores if he was going to give me $1.00 a week. ....and I sure did alot of chores!!!!

I never really got allowance...I did chores and I am one of the caregivers for my autistic brother and I do a lot for my deaf/mute sister. I think my parents just appreciate that and they just give my money if I need it.
And they pay my cell phone bill (which isnt a lot; I dont use it much). And they pay my credit card bills (which are a lot).
I like this arrangement better than an allowance lol.

Yeah, I only got $5 a week and I did a TON of chores. The worst was cleaning up dog poop in the back yard. I'd have to find it, scoop it up with a shovel, and put it in a bag.

In those days you could buy 3-1/2 gallons of gas for a $1.00.

Wow, you poor thing! I never got an allowance. I did things around the house and my Mom would always get me what I wanted or needed. As long as it was reasonable. I started working as soon as I could too because making my own money was always really important to me.
