Is there one that is any good? Would you reccomend one? Is it worth it? Or is it better just to use plain text?

My favorite, by far, and worth every penny (and not too many pennies, but a few) is WeBuilder http://www.blumentals.net - I've been using it for 5 years now, through several generations.
Extremely friendly and generous support, excellent customization, syntax highlighting, autocompletion (if you want) or not, spellchecker, many bells and whistles; as little or as much automization as you want, internal or external browser previews.
Short of that, freebie Notepad++ http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm
(free) would be my second choice.
