You have cells in the retinas of your eyes called rods and cones. The rods are responsible for detecting light, the cones are responsible for color detection. Some people are genetically prone to colorblindness due to a decrease in or improper function of the cones. It could manifest itself into color distortion (seeing certain colors as other colors, .ie. blue appearing black), or in more extreme cases, when certain cones are non-existent and you can't detect one particular color at all, usually red or green, because certain cones detect certain wavelenghts of color.

There are different types of color blind. Total color-blindness, when life looks like a black-and-white movie, is very rare. I have three uncles who are color blind. Two cannot see red. The other cannot see red or green.

It is very rare for someone to just see black and white. It does seem to be genetic, and is really rare in females. However I am colored blind and I am a female. Both of my sons are also colored blind and they have it worse than me, as did my father. The hardest part is red and green, such as on or off lights and flashing lights at intersections.

I had cataracts bumped off and lens alternative in the two eyes. My imaginative and prescient is now somewhat extra useful than 20:20 and the only time i won't be able to see colorations is at nighttime! I no longer only can permit you recognize what 2 flies are doing in the kitchen around the line, i will permit you recognize in the event that they are taking part in it!

The YOUR you are trying to use is a contraction of the words YOU ARE, which should look like this: YOU'RE.

For example: YOU'RE supposed to capitalize the first letter in every sentence.

To answer YOUR question, color blind people do not view the world in black and white. They see in color, just often not the colors everyone else sees. I often see purple when others see brown.

If you are really and totaly colorblind you see the world as if watching a black and white tv. You can turn off the color on you rown tv to see how that looks. What you usually also can do is to turn off red and thus see what a partial colorblindness looks like.

My dad is color blind. You don't see in black and white, you see like everyone else but you just mix up colors. Its like the lighting in the room is different.

Generally, color blind describes the inability to distinguish the difference between 2 colors, i.e. red and green appearing the same color. Color is usually still seen.
