It can take lifetimes or it can take a moment it depends on ones surrender. First one has to undserstand the basics of life. such as
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies.
This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position. He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere). After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can give up all material attachments (because the dirty mind has been fully cleansed) and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy.

I usually use Comet or Ajax on the tub, sink and toilet. Although, this is not a good product to use on new fixtures, since it WILL remove layers and leave tiny scratches that dirt, grime and mildew will eventually seep into. I use this because the affore mentioned items in my bathroom are over 30 years old, and well past their prime. I only care now about sanitizing, whitening, and less about aesthetics. I will scrub the daylights out of the tub and tile walls with a little Comet mixed with water, ocasionally will use a toothbrush for the shower door tracks, nooks and crannies, etc... and let it sit while I clean the sink and toilet. I will let the bleach in the cleanser work it's magic. I will then rinse with a bucket full of BLAZING hot water. I then spray the walls and tub down with a spray bottle mixed with an equal amount of water and bleach, and don't rinse...I just leave it. The tub and walls are usually glowing white when I am done, and the bathroom emits a fresh, clean smell. Opening a window (if your bathroom has one), will be a good idea, since it's not a good idea to turn your dwelling into a bleachy gas chamber....and fresh air mixed with bleach is heavenly. If you happen to have polished chrome faucets in your bath...drying with a rag after cleaning, and spraying with glass cleaner always makes them sparkle. It will also prevent hard water stains.

About as long as learning English syntax.
It is amazing how magnetic the dirty mind is.
Even with the best means available, which I believe were developed by Nichiren Daishonin in the thirteenth century and is being taught by Daisaku Ikeda contemporaneously, the dirtiness of the mind is not easily given up. That is the deciding factor. How much are you willing to let go of. Once you realize the negative effects really, really hard, you may be willing to move faster

I suppose it depends on what you consider a dirty mind. Are you defining "dirty mind" as thinking about sex, or are we talking about using a mind to exploit others for your own benefit, regardless of the consequences to others?
If sexual thoughts are a dirty mind, those will slow down and clean up as you get older.... Thinking of ways to exploit others is a mindset that is very difficult to clean up.

It depends how dirty but last time I checked I believe the average was 37 days, it could have been 33 but for some reason 37 is what sticks out in my mind.

We are who we are. Even if you "clean" a dirty mind, you are only blocking thoughts that you previously would not have let flow normally (many psychologists say this can lead to multi-personality disorder or scitzofrenia). Then again, a "dirty" mind is something different according to your culture, religion, or personal conscience--and so is having a "clean" mind. I think you would be good to read some Aristotle (Nichomachean Ethics) and not watch Dr. Phil. Good luck!

Only so far and as long as you take to balance the soiled with the clean: a ratio of 50%-50% is all is required to and fro -- dynamic, not fixed, not static -- a little more or less one time; a little less or more the next. That constitutes a healthy mind.

Actually, the dirty mind is a relic of our evolution and we would not be here without it. The dirty mind has won the right to offer the first thought into our heads. If we continually reject these first thoughts which come from our 'dirty minded' spirit guides, they will eventually get tired of our rejections and go find another person who is more receptive to their thoughts.
