First off, there's absolutely no problem with not having a license. I've known a few people who've gone into their 30s without one. Although, you may want to pick up a State ID from your local DMV, as having a photo ID can come in real handy these days.

Secondly, that's a very responsible thing for you to say. I've been on the Chicago roads for 20 years now, and I can honestly tell you there are some people out there who probably shouldn't have been issued a license, and take driving way too capriciously. However, with your care and consideration you've shown for other people I think you'd do better on the roads than you'd know! Also, with the amount of public transportation available feel free to take your time getting your license, and enjoy not having to pay off a car loan, insurance, gas, maintenance, repairs, and all the other "joys" of owning a vehicle ;)

You can get a photo ID from the DMV for $10. at least you can in CA.. check with your local DMV and see if they have that too. Many people don't have driver's licenses I didn't get mine until I was 21. before then I rode with my folks or took the bus.. its no big deal.
but you do sound very negative about the whole driving experience you need to talk to someone about that you need some confidence!!

The military cannot issue you a driver's license. You must get one from your state like everyone else. You might be allowed to enlist without one, but you cannot drive without it. So get one or you will be standing a lot of 12 hour gate guard in AFG since you can't drive a patrol car.

Not bad per se no. At least no one is going to bug you for a ride. But you should at least go to the DMV and get a personal identification card because you are going to need it to do certain things.

However there is nothing to be scared of. I generally always feel safer when I am driving as opposed to someone else because I have the control in my hands.

In life you should never go into situations assuming you are going to be bad at something, because it is only going to hurt when trying to realize your full potential.

It's not that bad. I know a few people your age with no license. Just go get a permit and ask your dad if he can teach you in a big isolated parking lot where you can learn the skill then take it out and use it on the roads. good luck man.

Don't be scared. Have your dad take you in a big empty parking lot and let you drive around for a while. I learned to drive by drivin around in a big open field... if you get the hang of it, then increase to streets that aren't very busy until you feel comfortable. And if you don't ever feel comfortable, just know you're doin your treehuggin' part! =)

If you don't want to drive don't, but someday you will need to get your license if you move away from home and you have to get to work, I was driving cars in fields when I was 13 practicing and couldn't wait until I turned 16 to get my license.

There's nothing wrong with not having you're license, especially if you feel that something bad may come of it. I think you need to think about why you're worried you'll hurt yourself or something. As long as you're confident, I"m sure you'll be a fine driver.

You are like many others who have yet to take their drivers test....nervous. It is quite normal. There is no reason to rush as you have transportation available. Just do it if and when you become ready. You are wise to listen to your feelings.
