She said that she had some sort of discharge that was a real dark blood color.. but it wasn't runny like blood, it was a chunk.
She already had her follow up, and we were curious, is it just a blood clot?
Please, don't reply just so that you can rant about how terrible abortion is. I'm not asking anyone's opinion on the situation, I'm asking about my friend's state of health. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

what she could have had is spontaneous abortion(misscarriage). u said she already had her follow up, so what did the doctor say? coz chunks of blood in early pregnancy is usually signalling towards an abortion.
This risk is greater in those with a known history of several spontaneous abortions or an induced abortion, those with systemic diseases, and those over age 35. Other causes can be infection, immune response, serious systemic disease or by accidental trauma.
regarding ur friend's health, make sure that if its start of an abortion, its intervened by doctor and its completed. 10-50% of pregnancies go into spontaneous abortions, so i would recommend her not to stress out that much. just make sure its well taken care of.
take care, both of u. hope this helps. -aaveg.

I Understand. My best friend is going thru the same thing while I'm trying ttc. They give you a local anesthetic into your cervix so you don't feel the pain of them dialating you. Then they use three rods each one alittle larger than the first to dialate your cervix. After dialation they insert a suction tube and kinda (vacuum) you out. Then they use an instrument to give you a d&c. This is where they scrape around the lining of your uterus (to make sure they got everything). Most places use an ultrasound to know exactly what they are doing. You also have the option of being twilighted ( half conscience) or asleep. I hope this helps you. I had to do an internship at one for med asst. school.

I think that's okay if it's like clotting. It's probably shedding the uterine lining. When my friend had a miscarriage she had discharge like that for the next few weeks. I would imagine an abortion would be similar. But calling the doctor or clinic where it was preformed might not be a terrible idea if they didn't mention it in post-op. If they think it's serious, they'll tell her to come in.

im not sure i've never had an abortion but what i can tell you is, sometimes when you get your period it is normal to get these "chunks" its your body cleansing itself its like bloody but not runny just like you explained.
it happens to alot of women.

so what i'm guessing is that since she had an abortion, her body is just cleansing.

im not sure how to explain it.
but im pretty sure shes fine.
if it continues or worries her alot ...
go see a doctor.

I think it may be normal. If she continues to have problems tell her to go back to the doctor. She may risk infection or something else. You're a good friend, she's lucky. 2D
