...or any of your favorite bands. Let's face it -- sex, drugs, and rock and roll comes with a price for a lot of these folk :)

That is so unfortunate regarding Richey James' disappearance ... I guess that would fall under mystery and controversy

Wow, no kidding Rckets - they must have assumed it was a "Faces of Death" sort of material, lol. Lame - especially if they were touring at the time, and Trent was clearly alive

Sookie - I never knew that "white pony" was in reference to that :-O

Prof - that'd be funny if it were true.

Well, my two favorite bands are Aerosmith and Manic Street Preachers.

Aerosmith is known for being complete alcoholics and/or druggies during the first half of their career, as well as for Steven Tyler being an apparent victim of satyriasis (obsession with sex). :-p

The Manics . . . well, I guess the most controversial thing would be the disappearance of their lyricist (he's never been found), Richey, followed by their performance in Cuba.

I'm really bummed that I cannot confirm or deny this. I've done research and I've tried the YA angle to find out, but to no avail so I will just accept it as truth until I learn otherwise.

From what I understand, Pavement, while playing Coachella, got in a big fight on stage and finished the set by putting a little stereo up to a microphone and playing one of their cds.

****************
I forgot, they had another one that I found out about when I asked if anyone knew whether that story was true or false. Gary Young, their first drummer, was a pretty awesome rock figure. He did the whole too drunk to play the show thing a few times, which luckily Bob Nostanovich could play drums and would fill in, but apparently at one point Gary pulled a gun on Stephen Malkmus. I'm not sure what the details would have been, but I imagine that was pretty much the end of his run with them and segwayed nicely into the very nice and mellow Steve West choice to replace him.

Guns N' Roses
-takes a deep breath-

- Excessive use of drugs and alcohol

- Using offensive words in a particular song
In the song "One in a Million" there are...unpleasant terms used. People branded them homophobes and racists despite the fact that Slash is half black, and Axl idolized Elton John and Freddie Mercury [may he rest in peace].

- The St. Louis Riot of 1991; In the middle of a concert, Axl jumped into the crowd and started beating up one of the audience. The person was recording the concert [possibly for bootlegging] and Axl had already asked the guards to sort the guy out - when they failed to do so - he pounced into the crowd [with a fluffy little jacket on.. hehe] and attacked the guy. When the fight was broken up he slammed the microphone on the floor and left. This sparked a /huge/ riot.

Sometimes i think i know too much about that band..hehe.

Edit, Silver; -hits forehead- [mine not yours lol].. how could i forget.

There's the famous rumour {no pun intended!}, that Stevie Nicks one had to be assisted by a roadie to take cocaine through a certain body orifice!

And also the incident where Stevie autographed a fan's arm, and the girl came back to the stage door the next night to show her the 'signature tattoo' she now had. Stevie refused to sign anyone's body again.

Cinnamon :~

You forgot the incident where Izzy urinated in the aisle on an airplane!

Edit :~

One more GN'R one :~

The incident at the Donnington Monsters of Rock festival, where it's believed a couple of fans were trampled to death during the GN'R set.
Though it was *not* their fault ~ they actually tried to calm the audience by switching to an acoustic set.

I really love The Beatles and a ton of other bands from the 60's. I guess they are mainly known for things like using drugs but more importantly, they are known for shaping rock and roll and influencing a wide range of musicians today.

Oh yeah forgot one more G'N'R item. The Montreal riot. After Metallica's set ended early after James Hetfield was severely burned in a pyro accident. G'N'R started late, then Axel got into a snit and cut the show after 20 mins and a riot ensued.
Judas Priest and Ozzy getting blamed for idiot fans killing themselves is another one.

Plugging a tomato into an electrical socket, lighting (melting) a 3 foot plastic penguin on stage, turning the audience into a human tesla coil. My fave bands don't do the boring stuff everyone else does.

Hmmm...well, I know that the 'Tones named "White Pony" for the slang term for coke (or so I've heard) and I believe there are band members that are pretty vocal about doing illicit drugs. But I don't know if anyone has gotten in trouble for it.

There has been tension between band members as well. I don't know if it's been Noel/Liam-type brawls, but it's rumored that Chino recorded a large percentage of "Saturday Night Wrist" separately from the band.

The most controversy surrounding them that I know of is the fan frustration over the delays in the releases of their albums.

Edit: well, it's something I heard. Who knows fact from fiction any more? :)

Great question. The first one that popped up was NIN for the video Down In It. It appeared in the footage that Trent’s character had fallen to his death. Hard to believe, but the FBI actually took it serious enough to conduct an investigation into the matter. Nothing better than your tax dollars hard at work.

I've actually heard the Down In It video referred to as a "snuff film." Hilarious!
