A couple of people here are trying to claim Hank Steinbrenner didn't go back on his word.
Please explain to me how saying you won't negotiate with a certain player if he opts out of his contract;
Then a few weeks later, they are in Hank's office NEGOTIATING a deal?
You do know what the word negotiate means right?
It makes no different who went to who, if the two parties are discussing a deal, they are negotiating.
If Hank wanted to stay true to his word, he would've told A-Rod he meant what he said, and no negotiations would take place. Period.
Do you just not know how contracts work, what a negotiation is, or will you just say anything as long as it's positive about the Yankees?

I think I just broke the Guinness Book's record for most times using the word "negotiate" or "negotiations" in 1 question.

So he did make A-Rod an offer? He also stated he wouldn't talk about a new contract either - but that's splitting hairs.
So you think A-Rod walked into his office and Hank told him flat out "10 years/275M" and A-Rod signed on the spot? That's assuming a lot.

I've stated many times on here, A-Rod is the best player in the game, and that other Sox fans were underestimating his greatly. I also said I'd like for him to be our 3B, but I think I can "settle" with a WS-MVP and gold glove caliber defensively player in Mike Lowell. So no, this has nothing to do with the fact we didn't get A-Rod.

I don't believe there is any such thing as being "true to your word" in any kind of a negotiation. You do or say, within reason, anything you can to get the upper hand to get a deal together and it is all part of the game. The task in any negotiation is to get what you are looking for and I believe Yankees fans have to give Hank credit for doing just that.
EDIT:
Legends, you are a top contributor now and I challenge you to open up your questions and answers for everyone to see how you respond. You will ignore this request and we will never see anything, am I right? What is it with your best answers that you don't want anyone to see? Could it be that C-Note, Gosuleague, Michael Victorious, Mocktober, Yee Haw, Hank Moody, mortymoore, the fake chipmaker and many other of your accounts helped you get there? How do you respond to what I am saying, or do you just send me another one of those nasty emails showing off your use of your filthy vocabulary?

you might be right for a change, but the girl above is right. it should be none of your business. Just like the true Yankee fans dont care what Boston does, you shouldn't care what the Yankees do, either.
Oh but you will poke your nose. Typical Bosox Fans.
Jazzed, just for the record, I never said anything against my fellow Yankee fans. I just think that Hank did not stay true to his words when it came to dealing with A-Rod.
If my fellow Yankee fans don't agree with me, then It is OK. I have my opinions, and they have theirs.

what did the yank league do in the previous there became right into a dh rule. i've got faith that the dh rule went into effect by using 1974. in the previous that pitchers had to hit and run bases. I`m confident there's a large undertaking in the national league with pitchers hitting and dealing bases.

agree with IAX on this one. hank did not stay true to his words
when hank said he will not talk to A-Rod after he opts out, but negotiates with him after he opts out, even when a-rod crawled back, hank is contradicting himself.
sorry legends, i am a yankee fan but i dont agree with you. even though i like signing of a-rod, the truth about hank is the truth.
edit: IAX is right. you really don't mind your own business. eejits like you spam this section.

Negotiating means going back and forth one way or the other to reach a middle ground. Hank did NOT do this. He told A-Rod flat out... 10 years/275M and you take the hit for making us lose the 21M Texas would have paid us. It was a one way offer. That isn't negotiating. There was no counteroffer. You need to break out that dictionary again. You seem to think "talking" is the same as negotiating. I'm talking to you right now, but we aren't negotiating. Understand now?
