Each time I need a refil, my consistantly takes between 3-5 days to send a simple fax back...this means I have to go several days without medication.

For whatever reason, she writes short prescriptions, so I either have to keep going back to the Dr or ask for refils (as she suggest I do!!), but she is painfully SLOW.

Is this common??

Is your doctor senile? Getting back to the pharmacist in 10 or15 minutes is reasonable. Even an hour or 2 is not bad. the dr should know the pharm is calling for a reason. Write your doctor a letter telling her how many days you are going without your medication and when the pharm says he called, (just to make sure where the problem lies). It is possible that the pharmacy doesn't regularly stock enough of your med and has to order it. Call several pharmacies to see who keeps ample supplies of your med on hand. You may want to switch pharmacies. Ask you doctor for a 60 or 90 day supply, and allow at least 2 weeks to get a refill. Hope this helps

any time I've had to go through a doc for a refill, I was taking the medication home that same day. you're doctor should definitely be much quicker than that.

That seems to be the normal time span, try calling BEFORE you need a refill to give them plenty of time so you don't run out..

Very unusual in the U.S. unless you are taking medicine that might be addicting and you are asking for early refills.
Have you talked to the doctor's nurse about this?
He/she probably can help get it fixed.
