Just her body growing up, is all. In a week she will have regular bm's probably one a day or every other day. My guy is 4 months old, has started cereals and he poops it seems like every 36 hours. Then one day he'll poop twice. Then go back to normal and then go 3-4 days and then really fill the diaper. Unless she seems distressed or in pain and struggling to go, relax. Her body can only hold so much poop and it will come out.

Constipation isn't really dependent on frequency of stools; it's how difficult it is to pass the poop. If she's uncomfortable, straining hard, and passing very hard dry poop, then she's constipated. If her stools are soft and pass fairly easily (it's pretty normal for a baby to grunt, strain, and turn red in the face while pooping, even when not constipated), then she's not constipated, even if it's been several days since she pooped.

It's normal for an older breastfed baby to go several days or even a week or two without a poop. She may not be constipated; breastmilk is very digestible, so there's very little waste. When she needs to go, she will. Don't be surprised if it's a big poop once she does go!

If you're giving her solids, though, she could become constipated from something she ate. Rice cereal can be very constipating, especially if it has added iron (most do). This is a sign that her body isn't really ready for solid foods. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends waiting until about 6 months for solids; this gives baby's digestive tract enough time to mature and reduces her risk of reaction/allergy to solid foods. You might try eliminating the solids until her digestion returns to normal, then trying again in a few weeks.

My daughter was breastfed only at 4 and 5 months, and pooped once every few days, which is normal for a breastfed baby. A formula fed baby should poop everyday, since they have more impuritied to dispose of. Solids shouldn't be started until 6 months, and can cause digestive issues, so that's probably what's going on with your little one.

Your first baby right?

Why are new moms so weird about poop?
When she's gotta go she'll go..
One of mine would go up to 5 times per day..OR not for 7 days.

Ps: back off on the solids she's too young.
