Some would say Brigham Young led his group to Utah because of religious persecution. Although another interpretation of history is that he and the other Mormon leader, Joseph Smith, had a falling out when the Mormons were in Missouri,and Smith left with his "faction" for this reason.
That's the beautiful thing about the study of history. It's not just a matter of true/false facts, but a subject in which there is often room for further investigation, interpretation, and debate.
