In order to appreciate life more, you need to create interesting and challenging activities. And you need to focus on the positives in your life.

Personally, I don't think you will become more positive and appreciative of your life by focusing on those people in the world who are miserable, poor , and oppressed. Really, how is that going to help? Unless you are involved with helping them in some way, any attempt to feel happier by comparing them to you is likely to be ineffective. It can even result in feeling guilty and unworthy, and sad for them. At the best, you may feel relieved that you are not in their shoes.

If your life seems boring and routine, then take responsibility for changing that. Find one or several things that interest or excite you, and get into them. What those interests might be are up to you. Everyone is different. But they might include playing a sport, learning a new hobby, socializing more with friends, volunteering in an area of interest or skill, working out (getting in shape), taking classes, changing careers, traveling, joining clubs (including a health club), etc.

When you develop several activities or goals that excite you and you look forward to, you will appreciate your life immensely more.

Go travelling.

For me my gap year showed me how lucky I am to have the life I have. I travelled through lots of poor countries and marvelled everyday at their zest for life, their everlasting smiles. I saw some of the poorest nations and people, not one complained, not one wanted sympathy.

I came home valuing everything I had. I value the fact that I can earn decent money, put a roof over my head and food in my belly. I also value tarmac! It's rare these days that I ever think I have a bad life, because no matter how sh*te I think it's got, i remember what I saw when I was travelling and I remember that my life is actually good.

Here are some words you can put in Google or Wikipedia that should help you appreciate your life a little bit more. Enjoy.

Sudan
Ethiopia
Guantanamo
Project Housing
Applying for welfare/unemployment
"Statistics; Cancer; No Health care"
Communist China
Rent under $300 a month

Do a couple searches on some of these. If you don't feel better about your life after a few of these, then there's no curing you.

Start by getting rid of all the stuff you have that you don't use or really need. Try to simplify your material possessions.
Invest your time and money in developing closer relationships with family and friends.
Also be generous with your time and talents to help others who are less fortunate than you.
Set a goal to take on an adventure - something you always wanted to do or learn. It could be learning to play piano, baking bread, trying wood working or martial arts. Challenge yourself.
Good Luck.

It's very easy for people to take life for granted, after all we're only human.
If you really want to appreciate what you have try doing something that is fairly hard and will take a couple of hours of your time.
Take an afternoon stroll through the children's ward at one of the larger area hospitals and meet with and talk to the children, some of which will never be going home.
I guarantee that for years to come, you will appreciate the good things in life.
good luck

Watch the True Movies channel. Such classics as "Who Will Love My Children?" about a woman with terminal cancer, multiple kids and no clear next of kin, and "The Face on the Milk Carton" which is about a girl who was snatched from her parents at a young age then recognised at age 16, only to have to go through the trauma of being parted from the only family she has ever known to live with a bunch of strangers.

To top it all off the ad breaks are full of Oxfam Darfur appeals, and PDSA plights about drowned kittens and ill-treated bunny rabbits.

Works every time.

Slow down and take notice of your surroundings a whole lot more. It sounds a bit cliched, but watch the birds through your window, notice the leaves falling from the trees. Or listen to some really good music and lose yourself in it. Sit down, put the fire on and have a cup of tea - and cherish the moment. Get a pet and appreciate and nurture its companionship. Buy yourself a good novel and spend a weekend reading. Have a lovely meal and appreciate every mouthful, every flavour.

You get my drift,....... happiness lies in noticing the small things in our lives,........ and appreciating them.

Happiness lies in simplicity.

Good luck. X

Men try to attain big achievements. Women try to do small
little things in a nice way. Observe all small things that she
does and try to appreciate her whole heartedly.

They value a word of appreciation to be more than a
lot of big gifts.

That is the way to her heart.
