is there any logic or story behind it?

A God-Father or Mother is someone who is very close, as a friend, to the actual parents of the child who is like an emergency parent for the event if the child should be orphaned.

This is, basically, the logic behind the old custom which, incidentally, pre-dates Christianity.

The custom proved to be a sound one, where the child found help and answers to questions where the actual parents were unable to help, from the God-parents.

However, the practice is more common among the Roman Catholic people, perhaps because this was probably an old Roman custom, though I don't really know for sure, since there are only a couple of references to this custom in the Roman tales.

Hope this helped.

Cheers!

Godfather and godmother refer to a person who has agreed to take a special interest in the upbringing - Christian or not - of a child, and/or has agreed to adopt the child should both parents die. Although largely an honorary position, godparents will sometimes help to finance the education of a child or simply act as a mentor.

A godparent, in many denominations of Christianity, is someone who sponsors a child's baptism. Godparent is regarded as a patron saint on earth, who prays for the newly baptised, looks after them spiritually and gives them guidance. The Catholic Church sees Baptism as an entry into the Kingdom of God, and entry into the Church.

there is nothing legally binding about taking care o child if the parents are gone. you basically promise to see the child is raised in Christ. I am one and have failed miserably at times.but been a success at others.

Traditionally, they are the ones that will care for the children if something were to happen to the parents. They would be the guardian.

I was raised Lutheran and was taught that the godparent(s) was to make sure the child was raised as a christian. they are named at the child's baptism. this site explains how it all started.

I know that they are the ones responsible for the kid if the parents die. I have also heard that they are the people that bring religion into a kids life, or help the kid with religion. Idk about any stories though, you could google it and probably get better answers.
