First and foremost... Norton 2007 sucks.

My computer is slow as hell. The virus/es copy themselves into fake files so when Norton does catch a virus, it doesn't even matter because there are dormant viruses in other files! It's taking up a lot of space on my computer. I get ridiculous amount of popups (I'm so tired of seeing video porn), which slows the computer down even more.

I've tried numerous adware programs. I've tried to remove the viruses individually with Symantec remoal tools (an example: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2004-112210-3747-99).

I really don't want to reformat the entire computer. I'll lose a lot of files; I'm don't to save anything important on disks and refomat because I'm afraid there will be copies of the virus in important folders. I'm willing to do just about anything besides that. I don care if it takes days.

I'm desperate. Please help!

First get rid of vundo:

run:

then Uninstall eZula from "Add/Remove Programs" in the Windows® Control Panel.

backdoor.irc.bot - removal

Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
Update the virus definitions.
Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as Backdoor.IRC.Bot.
Reverse the changes made to the Windows registry.

If this fails with system restore off & in safe mode with internet do a free online scan:

Usually if a virus can not be cleaned, it is not because it is dormant. Rather it is because the virus is running, which causes its files to be "in use", the scanner can not remove them.

Try booting the PC in Safe Mode. Turn it on, and begin to repeatedly press the f8 key until you get a screen with the Safe Mode option. When you boot into Safe Mode, only the minimum files need to display the desktop are loaded. Not even the video driver is located, so your display may look larger. That is normal.

Because none of the virus files are permitted to load in Safe Mode, if you do a virus scan and a spyware scan, it can normally clear everything.

When done, simply reboot the computer to return to the regular mode.

You most likely will not have to reload the OS if you follow these instructions.

First get rid of Norton. They don't protect anything. I get at least one call a week to remove spyware from a PC running either Norton or MacAfee. Both are horrible at removing spyware. Viruses play very little into the problems of PCs today. (But you still need to run a anti virus Program)

The best program for that is Spyware Doctor by PCtools

www.PCtools.com

===========

First remove Norton with the Norton Removal tool from Symantec

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then download Spyware Doctor. You will need to by a license but is is cheaper then reloading your drive.

Then let it do its job

That's it.
