There are different ways to "join" SETI.

You can participate in the SETI at Home project operated by UC Berkeley. You download a program that will use your computer to analyze data.

You can join the SETI Institute's TeamSETI and get information about SETI and other Astrobiology research at the Institute. The Institute is building the Allen Telescope Array in partnership with the UC Berkeley Radio Astronomy Lab.

If you are good with electronics and computers, you can join the SETI League and build you own system with an old satellite TV dish.

If you want to try a career in SETI, first be aware that there aren't many jobs. The SETI Institute has about a dozen scientists and engineers working on SETI and the Allen Telescope Array. The scientists have PhDs in Astronomy, Physics, or Math. The engineers have degrees in Physics, EE, or Computer Science. So, get a degree in one of those fields and hope there is a position available.

Whatever you choose, have fun.

You can just type seti into your browser and find it via the search results but there is a new listening network called the ATA or also known as the Allen telescope array and that is far more advanced than the seti program but they both are so awosome and I know that sooner or later they will tune in a signal from way out there, Sagitarious is the place they heard the WOW signal back in 1977 , they heard it for aprox, 37 seconds and it was not of this earth but they never heard it again,, I wish you all the bet in your quest and please do sign up for it,, you will not regret it,,

Via seti@home you can download a little software that recieves tiny packets of data from where SETI has gathered radiosignal from space. Those need to be processed and filtered to see if there are any alien signals among that data. This happens on YOUR computer (when you yourself aren´t using it) so it could be YOU and your computer that finds the ultimate proof of there being aliens.
