One acre of corn grown in Iowa with no fertilizer was compare with another acre of corn grown in California using a new experimental fertilizer. The total production of corn was measured for each field. What is wrong with this experimental design?

The conditions in Iowa are ao different that Cali, that Iowa isn't a valid control.

Off the top of my head, I think the soil nutrients and composition must be the same in both areas. The humidity will not be the same, but maybe that and watering can be controlled.

Is it because they should be grown in the same place, should only change one factor - the fertiliser, not the place aswell
