Pardon me if I misled you on this question. I didn't read it at the graveyard! I was in the gift shop and read it on a miniature headstone.

Lots of them. Here are two of my favorites. The first is on a grave marker in Brooklyn. The second on a simple wooden marker in a boot hill cemetery in South Dakota:
1. "Here lies the body of Solomon Pease
Under the daisies and under the trees.
Pease is not here, only the pod.
Pease shelled out and went home to God".

2. "He called Jim Brown a liar!".

come on , I heard that as a small child (almost 60 now). It's been retold from Tennesse, Illinois , Missouri, most every farming community in the mid west. It's as much a legend as the fifty dollar Corvette that someone died in.While in the military I met 5 idiots that swear that they bought that car !

Falkirk, England

1690

Here lie the bones of Joseph Jones

Who ate while he was able.

But once overfed, he dropt down dead

And fell beneath the table.

When from the tomb, to meet his doom,

He arises amidst sinners.

Since he must dwell in heaven or hell,

Take him - whichever gives the best dinners.

I have seen one that was written by a mans wife and his mistress. If I copied it the way it was carved onto his headstone I would receive a violation for sure.
