It helps when you're not in debt up to your eyeballs, like us and China gets an added bonus by not having to appease religion.

Well, because the USA is importing uneducated people who come here illegally, and are inposing their culture and influencing us negatively, also the USA is not investing in educating their youths. Socially the culture of the USA is getting deteriorated. China has become a model role for the world, because they have controled their populatiopn, and everybody or at least the majority of its people are getting educated, and they are working hard. Americans are now getting fat and lazy. This millenium belongs to Asia and there is nothing we can do unless we take an active role in changing our ways and start doing something like being very careful next year and choose the right president and the right legislators. We have been apathetic by allowing a few to select our rulers who will just take care of their special interests...and not voting. We just let others do the work ...blame others, and do nothing for ourselves. It's time to take a look and start working hard, and correct what's wrong with our society.
We can do it and become the powerhouse we used to be ...if we start working on it now. Let's get rid of all the incumbents and start with new fresh blood ...hard working legislators and make them accountable. Let's start becoming good parents, teachers, etc. Let's stop complaining and start doing something. Wake up America ! Stop dreaming.

Because they bought everything so they can build an infrastructure. They're also preparing to show off to the world during the 2008 Olympics. I think a far more interesting question is how much will China donate to the world in the face of a catastrophe such as the 2004 tsunami? I'll give you a hint, They already said nothing. That's something you haters should keep in mind.

Because China can sell to anyone cheap, although with the current situations involving lead paint, GHB, and them just being mean when it comes to ports of call a lot of Americans are trying to figure out how not to buy Chinese. Since we are one of the biggest if not the biggest importer of Chinese goods this is bound to hurt them in the long run and their growth will be slowed. We can again claim to be a powerhouse because we have never lost that distinction. What happens to us trickles to the rest of the world causing economic turmoil.

Under the watch of a Republican President? China's continued growth has been going on for 50 years. The fact that a nation that contains 1/6 of the worlds population has been modernizing and industrializing itself for half a century is not news to anyone. Where have you been since birth?

As a socialist country China has a planned economy and also having richest human resources with skilled latest technology. As a planned economy China has a plan of development taking into consideration of their national resources, requirement of its people and around development. China has been giving utmost priority for its human resources development through highest allocations to education, health, research and development, science and technology. That is why chine is dominating the world in all fields and continuously recording growth rate around 10 per cent for more than a decade. Within short period one may not be surprised if China becomes super power.

I agree with Amos S and tonyagain, to name a couple...other good points too. And not to mention, they don't care what they eat or destroy...endangered animals (a big underground thing in restaurants) and many others that have no business being eaten....from their countries and others that they can...like their "bear bile farms"(I think for "medicinal" purposes-for them, not the poor bears--nauseating!)---keep them alive while bleeding it out of them several times a day (just a TV special on that--"Planet in Peril", disgusting, I couldn't watch it all. Too much else to list........)

China is going through their INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION right now. The U.S. and Europe went through theirs in the 18 and early 1900's. They may be 100 years behind but they are coming on like a BAT OUT OF HELL . I think our technology is vastly superior to that of the Chinese, and wouldn't worry about their taking over the world stage . I think their political ideology is what prevented and will keep preventing them from doing so.

Because they have much more lenient employment laws which provide a very low cost and (for all intents and purposes) unlimited labor force. It is usually much cheaper to outsource labor to China even after all of the VAT's and other taxes. This is what many large manufacturers have been doing.
This could be easily curtailed by the US gov't if they would impose levies making it more expensive to outsource labor. If I was supreme ruler of the US for a day, i would have a conditional tax on outsourcing based on domestic criteria such as the current unemployment level in the U.S. and the current U.S. minimum wage. I think that it is only fair that if U.S. employers are REQUIRED to pay a certain wage, that wage should apply to ALL labor by that company. This could easily be achieved with a tax that is applied to foreign subsidiaries of a domestically based parent company.

Wait, what? Since when? America has contributed to 29.8% of world growth, while China has only contributed to 13.8%. America is still the biggest contributor while China is only the 2nd biggest.
