Seasons across the world
The further north or south you live in the world, the more pronounced the seasons are. For example, in the far north, Alaska has sunshine 24 hours a day during their summertime.
On the equator
If you live near the equator, the Sun doesn't shift up and down in the sky as much. This means that the length of day temperature doesn't vary as much. So countries near the equator only have two seasons - rainy and dry.
Why does the Earth tilt?
No one knows why the Earth's axis is tilted by 23.5 degrees. Some astronomers think that about 5 billion years ago, when the Earth was still very young, it was struck by a Mars-sized planet. This colossal impact could have tipped our planet over. Whatever the reason, it's a good thing - if the Earth did not tilt, countries near the poles would be cold and dark all year round. If it tilted too much, the seasons would be very extreme – like on the planet Uranus. Here the winter lasts for 42 years in total darkness!

It has to do with the tilt of the axis. The suns rays don't his us straight on. Because of the tilt of the axis, they hit us at an angle. As the earth revolves around the sun, the angle of the rays change based on the earth's position. Because the equater doesn't really change it's angle to the sun all that much, the temperature will stay constant in that area throughout most of, if not all, of the year. Places like the Bahamas and areas of the gulf are located on the Equater, and thus usually stay warm all year around. Places like Texas, though, will see seasonal changes because it is far enough from the equater and the changing angle of the sun's rays is enough to effect temperatures to merit a season.

Near the Equator the seasons are there but not so obvious as in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere. This is because the sun is more or less overhead most of the time. We in the Northern Hemisphere have the sun's rays diluted because of the Earths curvature. so when the sun is just South of the Equator we get coder. The opposite is true for the Southern Hemisphere.
Have a happy Christmas.

Some places don't have seasons because the changes are so slight that people can't tell the difference.
