Solids and parrticles?

Question

I have read that the particles in a solid are fixed but vibrate on their fixed points.But I have also
read that if you place samples of metals like lead and gold against each other for a period of time.Particles of lead is found in the gold and gold found in the lead.This is all from the same science book.Was I misinformed.Someone please help.


P.S This is for a test.Please can the answers be accurate
