we're thinking about moving to Dublin. we lived in Sydney for two years and are looking for suburbs similar to Crows Nest, Balmain, Paddington...well serviced and connected to the city center, but not in the CBD.

Sydney is nothing like Dublin- just think different!
I visited Dublin recently and it wasn't the same place I had been ten years before. There is lots of building going on- especially around the canal area which will be very trendy and expensive when finished.
It is becoming a very cosmopolitan.

has a map of Dublin suburbs, though it doesn't show those closer to the city centre but still outside the main business area, places like Harold;s Cross, Fairview, Chapelizod, Rialto, just to menton a few. All of the Dublin area is well served by buses, but you have better transport options if you live near the DART railway (red dots for stations, running along the coast) or LUAS trams - for this see

If you are looking to go upmarket, choose the green LUAS line or stay close to the coast.
