It will run, but as someone already mentioned Vista is a memory hog. My advice is to try to get your ram up to 2 gig when you have the chance, especially with Vista Premium because of the Aero scheme.
As for the game itself, it will run but I would do the following to make it run better. (Try these changes on your current setup as well) Since you are using windows premium, make sure to right click the latest expansion shortcut that is installed on your desktop. Right click, go to properties, then compatibility, and put a check next to 'disable visual themes' That will free up a lot of memory by switching to a Vista Basic color scheme while you play, and switch back to Aero after you exit the game. I personally also run the game in compatibility mode for XP service pack 2.
The biggest advice I can give you however, and for the others who also mentioned having a hard time running sims2 is the following. After you start the game and are in the neighborhood view, hit ctrl+shift+c and type
vsync off
hit enter, and give it a second to load again. Once you do, the game will run amazingly better. I did this to get rid of my sound stuttering and horrible 'scroll' times. I'd explain why it makes it work better, but that would make this answer way too long and boring.
Note: I have to turn the Vsync off every time I play the game.

You could also try turning off the Anti Aliasing on your video card. You can do that for Nvidia by clicking on the nvidia icon in the taskbar, but I don't know how to do it for ATI cards.

Best of luck to you.

I have a computer with XP, a lesser processor, the same amount of RAM, and a comparable video card. I have all expansion packs and stuff packs, plus custom content. I have very little problems with lag in the game. If I am playing a huge house, zoomed out far, I have some issues because there's so much to render, but if I keep it zoomed in, I'm okay.

Your problem is going to be with Vista. Vista takes a huge amount of RAM to run, so I think you'll have some issues because of that. If you install more RAM, you should be in good shape. I don't have Vista because of the system requirements, but I've heard that 1 GB is what you need to run the OS smoothly. I can only imagine what it does to games. Besides, Sims 2 is not fully compatible with Vista; while it usually doesn't cause problems, it has for some users.

Back up your games, install everything, and play for a little while. If you encounter a ton of problems, uninstall and reinstall the original plus Pets (which you know works fine). Then install additional expansion packs one at a time, until you find the trouble spot. It'll take a while, but you'll know what to expect until you get more RAM.

Your specs are very similar to mine and it will run fine, but it will still be slow. I play many other games that work just fine, except for the sims. I don't know why they are such a hassle. I have decided it's not worth the aggravation and a good rule of thumb is to just install two EP's max and then maybe one or two stuff packs.

No, for the base game and bonvoyage (without any other ep) is 512 mb or roughly one gb. You'll either have to just play bv and the base game or get more ram. which I advise anyway because your game will be super fast and able to handle much more games. Also, be careful not all of the sims 2 games run well on vista because they were meant to be compatible with xp, especially true for earlier eps.

probable a working laptop or laptop subject the place it cant cope with the sport. to restoration this, go into the recommendations menu of the sims sport and music each and every thing down (ie: severe to medium or low; 10 to six or 5) to medium or decrease settings - it ought to no longer look all impressive and entirely large anymore in spite of the undeniable fact that it may make it run smoother.
