Aid to the Sudan which stands at 625million is actually only 1% of Sudans GDP so there not excactly poor to start with, That money is aimed at things the Goverment won't pay for such as women rights, aids awarness etc.
My opinoin is that this money would be better spent on our own people, but withdrawing it would not have much effect on the Goverment of Sudan which gets most of its money from selling oil to china.

I think we should withdraw support for Sudan, but not just because of the Gibbons case. I hate to think of people suffering, in any country, but I no longer believe the money goes where it's supposed to. And if I believed the Sudanese government was doing all it could to help it's own people, I'd be more inclined to say lets chip in and help them.

I don't give a fig about anyone from the Sudan. I say we spend the money on sorting out our oun countries multitide of problems before we go around the world passing out money to everyone. What about our elderly, our poor, our disabled. Air ambulances are paid for by donations from the public whilst we give millions away to some siht hole of a country full of brainless nutters.

Sorry but this well educated but somewhat naive person did not do her homework before going to work in a Muslim country then her ignorance was rewarded by breaking the rules of the country she was visiting.

By stopping aid to that country will only send out a message that once again we in this country are above the law.

History has shown that our arrogance has been to root cause of many of the past troubles in that country and that of many others..

Not only on this happening. They have a very poor human rights record and their army is engaging in mass genocide in Dafaw(not sure of spelling). They are a bunch of bandits and we are paying for it all through the aid that is given.

Yes - until these nuts learn to get into the 21st century and start dealing with others in a civilised manner. Half civilised would be a start; if modern thinking is beyond them, then perhaps they are past help.

They absolutely should! Why subject their citizens to that kind of BS?! I feel for the people there who want to learn and improve their lives, but until they grow with the times and get a decent government in place. nothing will change for them, no matter how involved the Western countries try to be.

Britain shouldn`t send aid to any other countries at all, there are a lot of people in our own country who need the money, they don`t realise when they do send money it all comes from us tax payers, we should be asked if we want it sending or not, no one should just assume we all want to ignore our needy

Mrs. Gibbons, by her own admission, was not mistreated. She made a stupid mistake which sowed she was not in tune with the sensibilities of her host country.
Aid to Sudan goes to those suffering in Dafur, not to the Sudanese Government.

Yup, we should get a little more crafty and tough. Now she's out withdraw aid and advise non muslim brits not to go there. It's no good, it's not a nice liberal world, and many people in it do not understand such ideas. We should stop deluding ourselves they do.
