When I drive it, it smells like something is burning. is that normal? Its been like that since I bought the car 3 years ago, and it passed inspection so I figured it was alright but now its really bad. Anyone have any idea as to why its doing this?

I Had the timing belt changed when I got the car, it then had 135xxx miles on it, now i'm up to almost 177xxx. Could it be the timing belt again? I recently had an oil change, I'm pretty sure its not leaking any fluids. Also, it makes some high pitched noise every time I have my foot on the gas. Its done that since I got the car as well I always just figured it wasnt a big deal. And ALSO sometimes it looks like my tires are smoking. weird, I know but it happens. So could it be something under the hood or maybe a tire issue? I'm looking to buy something new, just have to be able to afford it first so I nee this to last me as long as it can..help me out. Thanks!

well the burning smell could be many things bro. It could be one of you belts rubbing against something. It could be a wire burning. It could be one of your brakes thats stuck. It could be be ur clutch (if its standar) It could be that ur car is leaking any kind of fluid (being oil from the motor or the tranny or brake fluid) and its burning with the heat of the motor. I have a 98 RS give me more details bro maybe I can help u out more.

well it could be that maybe ur tire is rubbing against something. Have you ever done ur brakes? Maybe one of your brake pad is already stuck to one of your rotors... If its the tire thats smoking I think you found the problem. You said it only does it when you run your car right? And it looks like ur tire is smoking? Well check to see which one of your tires is smoking then check your brakes and your tire.

Check under the car for oil leaking from the head gasket onto the exhaust system. 420A motors are known for their faulty head gasket design. If the smell is a moldy smell, Eclipses had an inner door oder problem from mold. Taking the door panels and plastic liner off and spraying the inside area with rubbing alcohol was the factory recommended procedure. Make sure the window molding trim pieces get sprayed too if that was the smell problem.

I had that problem in my 1991 RST and I don't think the parts are any different.
the timing belt cover bolts were put back in the wrong spots and this caused the cover to warp.
the timing belt cover was rubbing up against the belts, especially the AC belt.
it was really hard to see it.
I replaced the cover and put the bolts in the correct places, (I found a web page that showed where each length went) and no more strange burning smell.

apparently this is a common problem.

I've got a 97 RS
(ugh)
Put some more down in your details about what exactly it smells like
It COULD be no big deal, but you could be slowly killing something under the hood
