Depends on the position which you seek. It certainly will be something that they will look into but if you are working for the post office, it may not be an issue. If you want to be an FBI agent or an Assistant US Attorney, it may bar you from those positions. It also depends upon what you plead guilty to. If you plead guilty to a crime that does not involve dishonesty, you would be better off.

I know a few people who were in the same exact situtation, and this was their experience. You should plead not guilty to the misdeameanor intially. You should get a lawyer and they might be able to get you a plea bargain from the prosecutor that will reduce this charge to a violation, which is lower than a misdeedmeanor and meaning you will not get a criminal record. Even better, perhaps you were illegaly searched so the evidence of the liscense could be thrown out and you could walk away with nothing against you. Or a public defender might be able to do this for you. The money for the lawyer will be well worth walking away without a criminal record.

If you're going to be found guilty anyway, right now it's about limiting your sentence. Guilty pleas get a bit better treatment at sentencing, generally.

There have been tons of people who had convictions and who work for the Fed. Don't count on being made a law enforcement officer tomorrow or anything, but if it's a job not requiring a security clearance it shouldn't be an issue.

Even clearances aren't out of reach, given a year or so of staying out of trouble.

Well I'm guessing you're underage so there's a good chance you could get a differed judgement which will exponge the charge from your record as long as you can convince them that this isn't something that will happen again.

Yeah something like that is probably fraud. Maybe even a felony. If you get a felony there will be no government jobs in your future.

i work for the govt and depending on what postion you apply for yes this can affect your eligibility. Each position has its own security clerance so you will have to settle for a position that has low clerance.
