I am looking for the name of that bowl-like drum instrument. Usually it has compartments with letters of numbers. When I see one, I think Jamaican music. What is the name of this thing?

To be correct... ;-)

The Steelpan originated in Trinidad and Tobago. The players refer to them simply as "pans", and refer to themselves as "pan players" or sometimes "pannists".

It is made from a steel oil drum. Different sizes are used for the different pitch ranges.
