3*-1=-11/5
I assume you meant 3x-1 = -11/5. if so then:
15x-5 = -11
15x = -6
x = - 6/15 = -2/5

If you meant 3^x -1 = -11/5, then:
3^x = - 6/5
x ln(3) = ln(-6/5)
This is not possible since ln is not defined for negative numbers.

unless you meant the * as an x then it would be

3x-1 = -11/5
3x = -11/5 +1
3x = -6/5
x = -6/15
