Well, it could be because it goes against everything that our ancestors fought and died for. It could also be that we don't wan to stand in line for six hours for a pair of levis or a loaf of bread. Maybe we want to choose where we work and live instead of it being chosen for us. Maybe we want to choose where we go to church.
Maybe because the FREEDOM that America has today didn't come cheap or easy and our family's blood is all over it.
Maybe because we believe in what our founders believed in and we will stand behind it with our lives and everything that we have.

Not just the US. What do you think caused WWII. Germany and its allies fought the communist spread years before America. Germany wasnt fighting to take over the world as the propagada goes, it was fighting to destroy communism which it and its allies were deathly afraid of and viewed as a direct threat to western civilization itself. Russian was already invading Finland and the Baltic states before Germany struck first. After the war another dozen countries fell under communism. The war for freedom caused more countries to loose their freedom than gain it.
It wasnt long after WWII that America learned its buddies in Russian and China were not the nice guys we thought they were. and ended up fighted the cold war, korean war, vietnam, bay of pigs, etc.
Antonio Gramsci imprisoned in Italy for trying a communist revolution back before WWII wrote the blue print for the new left and how they can gain control of western civilization and eventually destroy it. While we were so focused on Russian and china outside the US, the New Left infiltrated and did their thing within. Most of those inititives he outlines in his prison diaries have been implemented in the US currently. Many were financed by Russian.

I would replace the words 'was' with 'is' and 'afraid' with 'opposed'
The US is based on capitalism. We love being able to own our own cars, homes, and businesses. We love the freedom of owning our own mistakes when we make bad decisions. We love to drive days at a time without being stopped and having to provide papers to prove who we are. We love to go to a store and see the shelves full of food and not have to wait in line for hours hoping we get a government hand out or be rationed. We love to go to any school we want to for higher education. We love the fact that we can, if we work hard, move from one economic class to another. We love that we can vote our Representatives into office and vote someone else in if we think we need to.
And the list goes on and on ....

After WWII the US and the soviets grew apart, then McCarthy went on his witch hunt, demonizing them and "rooting out" the red scourge from within (falsely accusing US citizens of being Communists and destroying their lives in the process). All of America was lead to fear the Russians.
Any group can become "the enemy" with the proper amount of fear mongering, just ask GWB.
