I'm a white girl and I have to admit that I like white guys. I find them attractive. I don't really find other races attractive but that's just ME. If someone else wants to date people of other races, I don't care. Just hope they aren't doing it for the shock value.

Hi,

In the past I have heard Dr. Laura go ballistic and chastise people who call into her show complaining that their son or daughter is dating someone from another race calling them bigots and cutting off their conversations. On the other hand if they say my son or daughter is marrying a Muslim, Hindi or Jewish person when they are Baptist or Roman Catholic, then she agrees that this is not a good idea at all since there will inevitably be fights over the religion and the kids will most likely grow up with none.

On that I agree with her and would go on to say that whilst skin color in not an issue with me, I do think one should be careful marrying in to other cultures. Sometimes other cultures are different races and sometimes not. Marriages with a 50% divorce rate are hard enough to keep together and adding a different cultural equation can add a lot more things on your plate unless you can accept these things unconditionally.

Here is my experience thus far. There are cultures out there for example where the family comes first, even before the mate. Often he or she will ask you to send money to help the sister or cousin go to university, pay for medicine and funerals, send money for home renos through to paying for some special events and parties. To live here in NA, have a decent roof over your head it costs an arm and a leg and one can ill afford to look after three or four families. This can create terrible tension. Similarily even in our own culture, I cannot see girl that grew up in Harlem or East LA doing very good marrying a rancher in Western Canada.

I could go on but I hope you get my drift that if the races are from the same culture and religious background no problem but if not, be careful.

Mike

Since we live in a 'theoretically' free country, it shouldn't matter if someone wants to date in or out of their 'race'. Also, people of the same 'race' should be a little more open minded about what other people do or not try to put pressure on people that do things that they have a right to do (or not). It just might be reasons like this why people do date out of their race.

a) date a materialistic girl of a certain race
b) date a loud mouth girl that only talks to hear herself talk
c) date a woman that just complains about everything
d) date a woman that is always negative
e) date a foreign woman that only wants a green card for the US
f) date a foreign woman that is sweet and has a good heart that you feel comfortable/compatible with
g) date a nice girl from the US that is nice but feel like something is missing (ie. morals, compatible sense of humor, no passion in the relationship, etc)

I can't speak for everyone, but that's how it's broken down for me.

Personally I don't just date anyone because I am married and my husband wouldn't appreciate that. lol... Anyway, I am white and so is my hubby. BUT I do not see ANYTHING wrong with someone dating or marrying whoever they want. It is hard enough to find someone you are compatible with without adding stipulations. This is 2007, almost 2008. I have 4 children and if any of them wanted to date someone of another race I would be fine with that as long as they are a decent person. As a matter of fact, my oldest daughter has a different father. (I met my husband when she was 5.) She is part mexican, indian, chinese, german, and english.

I NEVER listened to stereotypes because I wasn't raised to believe in racism. My mother emphasized in equality for all. So um, I would date a cute caucasian man any day. IF....... I didn't already love someone, lol. I honestly prefer my own kind though( african american) because they are what I'm used to. Plus the black ones I been with have better muscular builds than any caucasian I've ever met. (including their "thingy") But I am always open to try new colors, lol.

It can affect a race - very seriously. Especially because some of the reasons they give can be extremely disturbing.

If the proportion of 'interracial' couples was nearly the numbers it is in the (UK) 'black' community in any other race it would be a major topic for concern.

It's the amount that's disconcerting.

My father was Dutch and my mom's Filipino and I turned out fine. Objections to interracial relationships are purely racist and are often covered up by falsely addressing concerns about cultural incompatibilities.

Relationships should be about two people who love each other and are willing to share a life together and to support each other through every trial and circumstance. Race has nothing to do with basic, universal human values of love, trust and commitment.

I don't mind seeing those relationships. But some families just dont accept it. Especially in black and white relationships. I dont know if you heard but Dog the Bounty Hunter referred to us as ******* on tv. Both black and white families might not accept having the other race in the family. But i dont mind.

I don't care what other people do. They have the right to date anyone they want. And I have the right to date only in my race and I do.

Don't care who dates who. Color or ethnicity have nothing to do with anything. People of the same race treat each other like crap all the time.
